J. Marc Richard is a senior lawyer with Foster & Company. He was called to the New Brunswick bar in 1989 after completing his legal education at the University of New Brunswick; he completed his legal degree in 1988 and his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1985.

Marc has close to 30 years’ experience as an insurance and civil litigation lawyer and serves his clients in all areas of the Province, fluently in both French and English. He has appeared and represented clients at all levels of Court in New Brunswick, in both trial and appeal capacities.

Marc’s practice focuses primarily on insurance defence and related litigation in the areas of general liability, personal injury, motor vehicle liability, property and fire insurance, commercial litigation, construction litigation, including all components of comprehensive general liability insurance.

Marc also has extensive experience in the areas of professional liability negligence for engineers, architects, surveyors, dentists, nurses and doctors defence, along with the prosecution and defence of subrogated related claims, and the preparation of coverage opinions for his clients. He has specialized in the areas of health law, including administrative law and civil liability issues, having acted for a wide variety of both public and private corporations and commercial interests, municipalities, regional health authorities, as well as a number of professional regulatory associations and bodies.

Marc was previously a member of the Law Society of New Brunswick Compensation Fund Committee, the Law Society of New Brunswick Complaints Committee and served two terms as a Governing Council Member for the Law Society of New Brunswick.

Marc has been an annual lecturer at the New Brunswick Law Society Bar Admission Course in the areas of civil procedure, insurance law, professional responsibility, risk management and loss prevention. He has been a speaker, presenter and lecturer at various conferences and seminars on insurance law, construction and engineering law and litigation, municipal law, professional regulation, hospital liability law, risk management and civil procedure.
